Back in 2013, we needed a way to be creative with sharing the story of Christmas in less than a minute. It needed to include the concept of an advent calendar, the style that people open daily as a countdown to Christmas. The purpose was to help people move through the journey that the various characters moved through in the lead-up the Jesus’ birth.
I came up with the idea of a stop motion piece using cut paper, since a majority of advent calendars are made from paper, and custom peg figures that were popular at the time. I led creative direction, filming, movement, and editing. Bekah Kitterman created the set and props, and Adam Mason ran the camera. I created the script, storyboard, and ran a few tests to figure out timing and camera movement. It was filmed (1440 photos) over 2 full days in an empty theater space.
